Amanda Rhodes, LCSW
Hi there! Welcome, l am glad you are here.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families and meeting them where they are in their journeys.
A Little About Me and My Career:
I graduated from University of Houston-Graduate College of Social Work, and while there, I learned how to take into account, from a holistic perspective, the needs of others. During my professional career, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work in inpatient psychiatric hospitals, schools, partial hospitalization, and community outpatient. I have been able to grow as a clinician, working with a wide range of youth including children ages 5-17, and their caregivers. I have also been able to work with young adults in several settings, aiding in life transitions and stressors.
What is my Therapeutic Approach and Style?
My approach is simple: getting to know who I am working with first, as an individual, building trust, and discovering what is next in their walk.
I operate from a fun, playful, energetic, lively and open style, respecting my client in their stage of growth. I incorporate games, interactive play, worksheets, creative arts, and traditional talk therapy.
I incorporate aspects of solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, play therapy and psychoeducation about emotions, the body, and coping skills.
What are my specialties?
My specialties include working with children and youth who have concerns such as anxiety (social or separation), depression, hyperactivity, behavioral issues, low self-esteem, mood dysregulation, self-harm, suicidal thinking, grief, dysfunctional family and/or peer relationships, challenges managing anger, environmental changes, previous trauma, and stress management. I also offer guidance and resources for the caregivers involved in the child's treatment for continuing care.
I also work with young adults who are adjusting to adulthood and/or working through depression, anxiety symptoms or life stressors.
Why I value therapy for people?
I value a healthy, ethical therapeutic relationship because it can be one of the most enriching experiences in a young person’s life. I am in awe of the amount of resiliency I have seen with the clients I have been able to work with and I am so grateful to be a part of their walk in life.
What can you expect from me as a therapist?
• A safe, comfortable space for you to express and explore.
• Transparency and open communication about progress of treatment and recommendations for continuing care.
• Ethical and appropriate therapeutic interventions, most suitable for you or your child.
•Respect for your right to self-determination, in how you feel your treatment is directed.
I believe every person has a unique story and I am honored to not only get to hear it but be a part of it.
